Jakarta/Soekarno Hatta & Singapore/Changi – Wednesday 12th November 2025 (Grant Robinson)

Jakarta/Soekarno Hatta

I consider myself lucky as the previous day’s issues had stopped, and despite feeling drained, met Ferdi at 9am a perimeter drive of the airport. He arranged for a couple of vehicles for us, and we went around in convoy. He stopped where possible so that we could try to get as many of the stored and active aircraft in and around the massive MRO hangar area to the West of the airport. The highlight was the DC-3 at Garuda HQ. $20 each was the charge for this. You can contact him on +62 821 10003533.

Rooms on the upper level of the Jakarta Airport Hotel are numbered from 1 to 82 and I think you could make any of these work for you. I was in 46 and despite the Skytrain building getting in the way of viewing departures from runway 25L, you only had to move down the corridor to make sure that you see these. There were arrivals and departures from this runway, but it’s not as busy as the two runways to the North.

From any of these rooms you would have a great view of the majority of action which happens on the other two runways, namely runways 24 mostly used for arrivals and 25R mostly used for departures. Runway 25R is close enough to your room to have a go at photography through the glass. This hotel is part of Terminal 2 and has a curved design. Rooms 1 to 43 to the West and rooms 44-to 82 to East.

In between is the Cockpit Restaurant which doubles up as the place for breakfast which starts at 03:30! We asked for a late check-out on all the rooms and they kindly gave us 1pm for no charge. The hotel staff also kindly (and wouldn’t take no for an answer) took our luggage to the Skytrain with us, I assume to make sure that we left.

Going through Terminal 3 (International side) formalities was very easy and we spent a few chilled hours in this very modern building with great views out onto runways 24 and 25R. I noticed later on, that if you walked down to gate 1 area, you could just about see arrivals on runway 25L, just before disappearing behind Terminal 3. You could also the departures off that runway too, so gate 1 is the place to be here when airside in Terminal 3. The following Jakarta log was from 05:30 to 13:00 then 14:00 to 17:00 before departing to Singapore.

Nice flight provided by Garuda Indonesia using Boeing 737 PK-GNN and even though it was just a 1 hour and 50 minute flight, we were served a hot meal and several drinks. I guess with so much competition around them, they need to keep with the traditional flag carrier standards?

The following log is in country prefix, then airline, type and reg order. No photographs taken today some, so some provided for this blog post, from the day before.

Singapore/Changi

Entry into Singapore was very easy and smooth, courtesy of having completed the SGAC e-Service in advance. This meant being able to use the many available e-gates – I didn’t see anywhere where you could speak to an immigration person and go through manually, should you have not done the e-Service application.

The hotel shuttle to Village Hotel Changi is not that frequent, which set the tone for what was to come and so we grabbed a Grab vehicle. A very smart 13 seater VIP boom box mini-bus turned up – $70 dollars (£41) for journey but better than waiting an hour for the hotel shuttle.

On checking in at Village Hotel Changhi, we were informed that the hotel was fully booked. We had rooms held for us but they were randomly dotted around the place and only one of our group had a view of departures – room 736. It was late by now, so we did a recce of the 8th floor to see what we could do for the next day away from our rooms.

The following log taken from 20:00 to midnight is in country prefix, then airline, type and reg order.
