Spent a lovely few hours yesterday at the Vintage Summer Party event organised by Aces High Aviation Gallery at Steventon. There were some very nice visitors to this lovely grass strip, located right by the Great Western train line between Didcot and Swindon. Of note to me was Tiger Moth G-BTOG which was painted to represent a Tiger Moth that was assigned to the USAAF during WWII. Very rare to see one in such markings.
Was also good to see some local history represented with info/pictures shown about RAF Mount Farm, RAF Welford, RAF Grove, RAF Greenham Common, RAF Harwell & RAF Abingdon. A poster from the 1990 RAF Abingdon air show had the memories flooding back as I was there that day for the massive flypast – something never to be seen again.
This event is on again today and with free entry, you can’t go wrong. Great to bump into Stewart Toone here and thanks for the tea chap!
