Sennybridge Training Area 26th September 2022 & Welshpool and Shobdon 30th September 2022 (Grant Robinson)

Hi all,

As part of a short holiday break to West Wales, I’ve finally caught up with range target Meteor F.8 VZ568. Seen from distance along a public road that seemingly can be closed by the military as and when required. We saw plenty of red flags flying along this road and lots of men in Army uniform and you wouldn’t go trespassing here! Seen from the safety of said public road at co-ordinates 52.0293383, -3.6320124

Welshpool

After a few days of Welsh holidaying with the Wife and Jet, it was time to head back to England via a couple of airfields, I hadn’t visited in a long time. It was pouring down with rain all day, but sometimes this can strangely help at airfields. Yes, the hangars may be open with lots of residents active and possibly out and about, but on a day like today, everything was at home and a kind gentleman in the Control room with time to spare, showed me around most of the hangars…….I last visited here 28th September 1997 – 25 years ago! G-ATBS, G-CEYY, G-CKFF, G-DAGN & G-UPIZ were good ones for me today.

Shobdon

Next up was Shobdon and again, another friendly reception on reporting to the Control Room (not tower) and aasking for asking for access. They thought I was a little bit mad given the downpour and I didn’t disagree. Last visit here for me was 12th August 1998, so I didn’t really care if I got a little bit wet. A new hangar since my 1998 visit contained Tiger Helicopters and I had a lovely chat with someone in charge there, and he was happy enough for me to wander and take photographs of the helicopters within.

I was very happy to come across Swallow G-ADMF – what a beauty. Others made here were G-BTAL, G-CDIF,, G-CFEX, G-CIYZ, G-MYSU, G-RCHL, G-ROYP, G-SPCZ & G-UDGE.
