My flight from Manchester was on time and I had planned a full day at Prague-Ruzyne, arriving at 1010hrs.
Clear blue skies and 30 degree temperatures greeted me, so I initially did a walk around the terminal airside before collecting my checked in luggage and going through security.
The two viewing places landside in the terminal were checked. One is through a cafeteria, which I remember from my last visit back in 2004. On that occasion it was a tourist visit with the wife. The other location is signposted and is quite comfortable, although it has no protection from either the sun or rain. It is free with no security check, so I found myself a seat and relaxed. The only downside from my point of view is that you have to photograph through glass, although I was happy with the location and photographs taken. As the day progressed, the sun is behind you till late afternoon, so that’s good.
As most aircraft will pass you, even if in the distance, no commercial aircraft should be missed, however maybe the odd small one, business jets or helicopters may evade identification. I took time out to go on the two car parks to see if a different angle would produce any extra’s. From Car park A you are closer to the business jet ramp area, however with the heat haze, I only ID’d a few. Having said that, once home and looking at my photographs on the PC, I did gain a few more. I could also see but not read the stored Smart Wings 7378MAX’s. Only 6 were lined up, however I was under the impression that 7 were stored here. On my visit a few days later we would identify them all, including the elusive number 7.
By 1800hrs I was ready to check in to my hotel which was located at the nearby village of Knezeves, which was conveniently 150 metres or so from one of the officially recognised spotting mounds. Once showered I had a quick look for 45 minutes and then retired for a few relaxing beers and a meal.
