Hi all,
First aviation trip of the year was a quick trip to Switzerland revolving around a factory tour of Pilatus.
We started off on Saturday 28th January and first up was to meet the crew at Heathrow for a nice and civilised tea-time departure from T5. A pleasant flight on A321-251N G-NEOP saw us arrive in darkness at Geneva just after 20:30.

Château-d’Oex
It was the last day of the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival, and despite some pessimism about what we might see, we were rewarded handsomely. From experience and to avoid disappointment, it is never a great idea to give yourself just one launching spot at any Balloon gig and certainly not on the last day! My take on it was that it was a free hit as we were in Geneva with time to spare anyway and even if the weather meant only tethering could take place, I was sure something would be happening as per the press on the organisers website and Twitter feed.
I was right and we spent a fantastic but cold few hours, stood around taking some really scenic pictures and watching with amusement as the car queue on the valley road got longer and longer. We had gotten to the event by 09:30, so be warned if you get here any later, you can expect to be queuing. When we left and headed back to Lausanne, against the the flow of the incoming traffic, we estimated at least one hour of queuing on that valley road with no other options to get around it.

Payerne
We were now up against the setting sun. The two French Army helicopters landed whilst we were there – strange movement for a Sunday?! The museum was shut but all can be seen from outside – I would rather have gone in, but we had enjoyed ourselves a bit too much at Château-d’Oex. The stored PC-12s can be seen though the many hangar windows but being a Sunday, it was deserted and we attracted no attention. Might be different on a working week day.

Dark and late by the time we got here. Pretty much no lighting on the ramps outside the hangars here, so only managed the two below. Time to find some food and head off to Stans for our Pilatus tour the next morning.
