Aero Friedrichshafen 2024 tour added (Grant Robinson)

TOUR ADVERT
Aero Friedrichshafen – Tuesday 16th to Sunday 21st April 2024
As a 6 day trip, we will spend 3.5 days visiting the popular Aero event held every year at Friedrichshafen. A large static as always is expected with around 200 aircraft in and the exhibition halls and this event usually attracts lots of visiting aircraft. Many of these visiting aircraft come and go each day so it is well worth spending time here each day with over 800 visitors noted during our 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2022 visits. Numbers were well down in 2023 but the local weather was terrible!

It is planned to fly to and met up at Basel during the evening of Tuesday 16th April. Very early the next morning, we will drive to Bouchs/Stans, home of Pilatus Aircraft manufacturing, for an early morning look at the hangars and flightlines – this has been very successful in the past.

Continuing with Wednesday 17th April, we will drive to Friedrichshafen where we have accommodation that is just 20 minutes drive from the spotting points at Friedrichshafen airfield. Accommodation for a group of people is hard to come by in the local area whilst this event is on.

We will spend the remainder of Wednesday, all day Thursday 18th, all day Friday 19th and the morning of Saturday 20th at Friedrichshafen giving plenty of time to observe the arriving and departing Aero visitors or to take your time looking around the Aero exhibition halls. Each day we will also visit nearby Markdorf where more Aero visitors are to be found – we saw around 400 different aircraft here during each of our combined 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2022 visits but number were down in 2023 due to poor weather.

Also to be visited is the excellent Dornier Museum also located at Friedrichshafen. If the group desires and is happy to be away from Friedrichshafen for a few hours, then it might be possible to also do the FFA Museum at Altenrhein. When the group is happy to leave Friedrichshafen on Saturday 20th we will overnight at Zurich Airport. On Sunday 21st we head to Geneva for our flights home, and so we will have time on both Saturday and Sunday to visit some Swiss airfields on the way to Zurich and Geneva respectively. A guided tour of Grenchen will be arranged for Sunday 21st to make up for the lack of success here in recent years.
