Hi all,
Given that the forecast for this bi-annual event was great in the days leading up to it, I was really looking forward to a day of Hot Air Balloon action, and I wasn’t to be disappointed. Swindon Town and Oxford United put aside their differences for the day as I picked up my good friend Bill Pill from a safe place on the outskirts of Oxford. Oxford United were relegated later that day, so good job he had this event to cheer him up.
First stop of the day was Luton and we bumped into Malcolm Porter. Had to leave before all the Wizz started arriving as Pidley was the priority and 08:30 was the time to be there…..

I would like to say thanks very much to the British Balloon Museum & Library for arranging this event and all those Ballooning groups and individuals that made this day such a great one. I can’t imagine how much effort goes on behind the scenes and before the day itself, to select envelopes that haven’t been seen for ages and then get them to the site. What can be seen is the effort of each crew to keep unpacking, inflating, deflating and packing away on repeat, in heat, in front of a waiting crowd. Thanks to each and every one of you.
There were a lot of like minded people there and it was great to bump into Andrew Rowbotham, Benjamin Burt, Chris Swan, Dave Haines, Geoffrey Clarke, Ian Grove, John Maloney, Malcolm Porter, Mick Bajcar, Nick Stone, Pat Lock, Paul Higgins, Rob Belcher – apologies in advance to anyone I forgot or whose names I couldn’t remember – a bigger problem as I get older! Only problem was that it was too busy at times to stop and chat – as it was I seemed to have missed a few despite my best efforts – other people noted G-BOCF & G-BPFX but these didn’t make my log below.
One request please is for one that I saw partially inflated and ready to be packed away.
