Glasgow Airport, Glasgow (Riverside Museum), Glasgow Heliport, Glasgow (Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum) & Glasgow Airport – Sunday 3rd October 2021 (Grant Robinson)

Hi all,

After breakfast it was off for an early Sunday morning dog walk around Glasgow Airport. It was still raining but the weather was supposed to break for the better later. I was after the Loganair Twin Otters so was happy to get two of the three needed.

Back to the hotel to reunite with the Wife and then a day of sight-seeing around this old City. This great transport museum was first up.

Glasgow Heliport was nearby but couldn’t get close to it as COP 26 preparations were in full swing and it was behind the security cordon. Looking from down the River Clyde, I couldn’t see any of the based Police Eurocopters outside.

Another museum was up next and I last saw Spitfire LA198 at RAF St Athan when there was a Spitfire store (I saw seven) in 1993. I think that was when the powers that be had realised that these probably shouldn’t be guarding gates any longer? I first saw LA198 as a gate guard at RAF Leuchars in 1988.

Being a bit of a football fan, I had messed up as Rangers were playing at home (Ibrox) when I arrived for some happy snaps – one for another day. Once our day of sightseeing had finished, we headed West towards Dumbarton where we would stay the night. This took us past the airport and so a quick look for missing Twin Otter was made. Result as it was sat outside the Loganair hangar.

What about the unfriendly and hard to spot at Cumbernauld, I hear you say? I got a recent first hand report from here which only confirmed what I had already experienced there before, and as I’d had a great day around the City, I decided not to bother.
